Election Commissioner
Mr. Dolakh Bahadur Gurung, Election Commissioner
Mr. Dolakh Bahadur Gurung was appointed to the post of Chief Election Commissioner (officiating) for Election Commission, Nepal on November 8, 2012. Previously, Mr. Gurung was appointed to post of Election Commissioner for Election commission, Nepal on May 13, 2006 by the President of Nepal through the recommendation from the Constitutional Council and a parliamentary hearing process.
As one of the Commissioners, Mr. Gurung also actively contributed to conduct the Constituent Assembly Election on 10 April 2008 and the by-election on 10 April 2009. Prior to the present assignment, he had served at the capacity of Secretary for the Election Commission and the Ministry of Local Development. His previous work experiences as the Joint Secretary for the Election Commission is also relevant to remember here.
During his 30 years of different responsibilities as an employee of Government of Nepal, he had served in several districts at different capacities. One of major tasks under the administrative assignment was to conduct general elections in the districts for the House of Representatives in the year 1991, 1994 and 1995 and the national referendum 1980. As a Chief Returning officer, he contributed to conduct local elections in various districts as well.
As District Education officer, for instance, he worked in Mugu, Manang and Tanahu districts while as Local Development Officer, he was in Gulmi and Gorkha districts. Additionally, he had performed administrator role of Chief District Officer in Solukhumbu, Baglung, Sindhupalchok, Surkhet, Parsa and Morang districts.
Mr. Gurung holds MA degree in Sociology and diplomas in Education and Public Administration subjects. During his government job, he had attended several trainings, seminars and conferences in and outside of country including USA on different subjects. Furthermore, he has extensive travelling experiences on developmental and educational areas such as study visit of Germany, Indonesia, USA, Thailand, and Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Singapore and Electoral study visit of South Africa, Lesotho, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ghana, USA, Mexico, Philippines and Mongolia. Along with that, he has also the experience as Election Observer of Japan, South Korea, Australia, Tunisia and many more.
His performances in the work places used to be rated commendable one in the field of administration, integrated rural development, Election management and so forth. Consequently, he has received dozens of honors and prestigious awards like 'Durgam Sewa Padak 2035', 'Rajat Mahotsav Padak 2055', Janamat Sangrah Padak 2037', 'Shree 5 Birendra, Aishwarya Padak 2058', 'Gorkha Dakshin Bahu Chautho 2052', Suprabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu (Tesro) 2060 and many more honors and credentials in various areas. Besides, he has contributed to this country as an author by publishing five books. Several articles on different issues have been published in the national journals and Newspapers. He also holds honorary portfolios in quite some social service organizations. He had served as President of Drabya Shah Multiple Campus, Gorkha. Similarly, he was also the founder president of Jalkanyadevi Sewa Kosh. He was the board member for two terms of St. Xavier College, Kathmandu. He was also the founder of Jalkanya Devi Secondary School, Taku Majh Lakuribot-4, Jhyalla, Kerabari, Gorkha, Nepal.
