Where to get the accreditation
Journalists are accredited by the:
Department of Information
(Based in Media Village, 200 metres on the right hand side outside the airport of Kathmandu).

Nepalese journalists already accredited do not need to get a new accreditation.
How to be accredited
Foreign journalists in order to receive a temporary accreditation (up to 9 months) need to:
- Fill in the Application Form
- Attach 1 photocopy of their passport and of VISA (for more information about VISA see below)
- Attach 1 photocopy either of their International Press Card (released by the International Federation of Journalists) or a Recommendation Letter by the Media Organisation they represent [with the letter head of the media organisation, stating the name of their media representative/s, their function/s and passportsТ details, from when to when their representatives will be working in Nepal]
- Attach four (4) photos (ID size)
- Attach 1 postal stamp of Rs. 5 (that can be purchased in the postal office inside the same Department of Information)
- Pay Rs. 900 to Officer in Charge or his assistant
The temporary Press Card will be released within a couple of hours.
How to obtain the visa to enter into Nepal

Media representatives from all the countries (but 1.Afghanistan; 2.Palestine; 3.Iraq; 4.Nigeria; 5.Swaziland; 6.Zimbabwe; holders of passports from these 6 countries must obtain a VISA from a Nepalese embassy abroad) will be able to obtain a tourist VISA on their arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) of Kathmandu. There they will have to 2 options:
1. Ask for a Tourist VISA (single entry, validity 60 days, cost 30 USD for more extension and more information visit http://www.immi.gov.np). ID photos are needed.
2. Ask for a 3 days gratis VISA
If the Media representatives opt for the 3 days gratis VISA, within the 3 days they need to get their temporary Press Card from the Department of Information and ask the Department of Information for a recommendation letter. Then Media representatives have to present the Application Form for study/non tourist/business [that can get at the Department of Immigration, non tourist VISA section], 4 photos, copy of their passport, copy of their VISA, a copy of their temporary Press Card and the recommendation letter to the:

Ministry of Home
Building of Impact Nepal, Maitighar, Kathmandu
Shiv Raj Joshi (immigration officer for non tourist VISA)
Within a couple of hours they will be able to obtain a non tourist VISA up to 1 year of validity for the cost of 10 USD per month.
How to enter into polling and counting centres
In order to enter into polling centres on Election Day, media representatives both Nepali and foreigners are asked to go to the Media Centre of the Election Commission or to the District Election Offices for the Nepali journalists who cannot travel to Kathmandu, and sign the Code of Conduct for Media Representatives on Election Day. A copy will be kept in the archives of the Election Commission and another will be given to the media representative.
The copy of the signed Code of Conduct for Media Representatives on Election Day together with the Nepalese Press Card will allow media representatives to enter into polling and counting centres. The media representative must show the accreditation to the polling officers and ask permission to stay in the polling station, and respect legitimate instructions in case e.g. the station is too crowded [rule 1, Code of Conduct for Media Representatives on Election Day].
